Significant damage to the historic stone surface was due to foot traffic and exposure to environmental elements over time. James Thomas Stone provided restoration and repair services to the natural materials in the Mediterranean Courtyard at the Honolulu Museum of Art to it’s original condition. As mentioned in an earlier section, stone restoration and repair services are performed by a licensed mason with extensive stone repair and rehabilitation experience in Honolulu who has provided services for many registered historic landmarks, luxury resorts, condominiums, and single-family residences.

Actions to Clean and Seal Travertine
- Grout entire area using four different grout colors to create natural look and feel to the unfilled surface.
- Seal with at high density sealer.
- Stone restoration is complete.
Stone Repair and Restoration Completed
The Mediterranean Courtyard at the historic Honolulu Academy of Art has be revitalized to its original beauty. Broken stone was replaced and color was carefully matched. This historic repair and restoration project is complete and ready for the public to enjoy.
